April Music Picks

April Music Picks

Lorde - Pure Heroine
I talk about Lorde a lot on here and it is because she is one of the only singers that has really captured my interest. Her look is one that is very striking and I absolutely love it. Her album really grated with me at first and I hated it, but after reading all her interviews and hearing she was only 16, I decided to have another listen. I LOVED IT! I don't know what was different this time, but it really clicked with me. Her lyrics are very minimalistic along with her sound, but that is what makes it even more special. I give it a listen to almost twice a day sometimes... I am little obsessed.
My favourite songs are: Glory and Gore, Buzzcut Season, 400 Lux and A World Alone. Although, I do find this entire album flawless.

Lana Del Rey - Born to Die (Paradise Edition)
Another one that took me a while to get into. I haven't always enjoyed Lana's music and passed it over. Yet recently, I just decided to take a listen to her on Spotify and I liked her sound. While I do not agree with the message of some of her lyrics, you can't deny her vast cinematic sound that is just so fulfilling to hear. I like to listen to her on the bus to sixth form and create film scenes that fit along with her music.
My favourite songs are: Diet Mountain Dew, Radio, Ride, American, Gods and Monsters and Summertime Sadness.

Tribes - Baby
They have recently announced their split, but that is what got me listening to them again. I discovered them a few years ago in NME magazine and heard their EP 'We Were Children' and  really liked it. Yet, I lost touch with them for reasons I can't remember. I really do like this album though, it feels so full and everyone song reminds me of summer and music festivals. It really saddens me that I have missed seeing them live, although I am not sure who I would gone with.
My favourite songs are: Sappho, Corner of an English Field, Nightdriving and Whenever.

Haim - Days Are Gone
Yet another band that I have only just really gotten into. They are most definitely style icons, but I have only just begun to appreciate their music. Another summery feels album that makes me want to cycle through a tall grassy field. My sister is also a fan and asks us to start a band like Haim all the time... They sound very 80s to me and that isn't a bad thing. Who doesn't enjoy some 80s cheese.
My favourite songs are: If I Could Change Your Mind, Days are Gone and Running if You Call My Name.
